Mother prays son who fell into sea found soon

-

TAWAU: A woman is praying fervently that her son who fell into the sea on Feb 14 from a ship in the waters off the Bertam oil rig will be found soon.

Sadariah Rahim, 50, wants her son, Sudarmin Aminuddin found - alive or dead.

“I can only pray and have faith that my son is found soon. My family members have also appealed to the congregation at the village mosque to pray that he is found soon,” she said when met at her home in Kampung Kinabutan Kecil near here yesterday.

Sudarmin, 31, a member of the ‘Floating Production Storage Off Loading Vessel (FPSO)’ from the ‘FMSUV FOS LEO’ ship was believed to have fallen overboard at 2.10pm about 86.7 nautical miles from Tanjung Berhala, Kemaman and five nautical miles from the country’s border waters.

Sadariah said she was informed of her son’s fate by his employer’s office in Singapore about 3.30pm on the day of the incident, adding that her son last contacted her the day before.

“When Sudarmin called, I was performing my Maghrib prayers. After praying, I found there were four missed calls from my son. I returned his call but he asked me to put down the phone as he would call me back,” she said.

Sadariah said her son, a father of three boys aged between five and nine years, had been divorced from his wife for several years.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s Eastern Maritime Region said search and rescue efforts had begun two days ago.

It said yesterday that Sudarmin was undergoing safety training for the ‘Fast Rescue Force’ onboard the ship before he fell.

“During the incident, the waves were between one and 1.5 metres high while wind strength was between 20km and 30km per hour,” added the statement. - Bernama
