Two passengers seriously injured in two-vehicle accident

KENINGAU: Two men were seriously injured in a road accident involving two vehicles at Mile 19 Keningau-Sook Road here yesterday.

District police chief Deputy Superinten­dent Douglas Nyeging Taong said the two victims were passengers of a Ford Ranger vehicle and a truck.

The Ford Ranger driver, aged 60 from Nabawan, only suffered minor injuries, while the 37year-old truck driver also from Nabawan, was not injured in the incident which happened about 2.15pm, he said.

Douglas said the Ford Ranger passenger, a 54-year-old man from Nabawan, had head injuries while the truck passenger from Sook, injured his leg.

“Police received informatio­n from the public that the accident occurred along Keningau-Sook Road yesterday.

“Initial investigat­ions revealed that the incident involved two vehicles. The Ford Ranger vehicle was from Sook heading towards Keningau, while the truck was moving in the opposite direction,” he said.

Douglas said the Ford Ranger driver lost control of the vehicle at a double line bend, and went into the opposite lane and collided with the truck.

He said the two seriously injured victims were taken to Keningau Hospital.

“The case is being investigat­ed under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.
