TENOM: The state government will continue to channel funds and assistance to cultural organizations and Chinese education as the government’s recognition of the role and contribution of the Chinese community in the development of this state.

Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh said the government welcomed Chinese community feedback on government services for the success of development programs to be implemented.

“I hope the Chinese community, especially in this area, will continue to support the government and not be influenced by information that smears the government by certain groups through social media,” he said at the “Lou Sang” ceremony in conjunction with the Chinese New Year organized by the Chinese Kapitan at Seri Menawan Restaurant here, on Sunday.

He said this was because the stability, unity and harmony among people of different races enjoyed today must be preserved for the sake of continuity in the development of the country and the people.

Radin, who is also the state assemblyman for Melalap, said the people, especially in the rural areas, should also be diligent to participate in various programs and seize opportunities provided by the government.

He added that the government had always encouraged nongovernmental organizations to organize activities to strengthen unity and promote understanding among the various races in the state.

“The Lau Sang event organized by the Chinese Kapitan every year is a very good platform to strengthen ties and unity among the various races in this area.

“I applaud their efforts to organize this event in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen the bonds that can generate stability and progress of this state,” he said.

The event was also attended by Senator Datuk Dr. Lucas Umbul, District Officer Madiyem Layapan, Melalap Community Development leader Simon Mamat, chairman of the event organizer Kapitan Liew Foh Sin, Chinese Kapitan and the Chinese community around this area.
