Kompany tells City not to give up on title dream

-

LONDON: Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has reminded his team-mates not to give up on their dream of winning the Premier League because they have come from behind to lift the trophy in the past.

City are now six points behind leaders Leicester with 12 matches remaining after a damaging 2-1 home defeat against title rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are down in fourth place and will need to overhaul Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester in the final weeks.

But City claimed the title in 2011-12 and 2013-14 despite having been eight and seven points off the top respectively with six games left to play.

Belgium defender Kompany was part of both of those triumphs and he has no intention of surrendering yet.

“Nobody is allowed to give up on anything,” he said.

“It’s a setback but we wouldn’t know our personal history well if we didn’t expect to still kick on from here.”

Once again City were below their best against Tottenham, who took the points thanks to a late Christian Eriksen strike.

But while he was disappointed by the outcome of the Tottenham clash, which came a week after an equally frustrating home loss against Leicester, Kompany feels there are positives City can take from the contest. - AFP
