Duo charged with drug trafficking
KOTA KINABALU: Two men were charged with drug trafficking under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death sentence upon conviction
Kan Cheah Jong and Koo Pak Kit were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Act, when brought before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun.
Kan was charged with trafficking in 391.47 grammes and 660.1 grammes of drug on November 16 this year in front of Suria Indoor Soccer Centre at Jesselton Point and near a reflexology centre around Menara MAA between 10.10am and 10.45am, respectively.
Koo, on the other hand, was alleged to have trafficked in 164.1 grammes of the substance near Karamunsing on November 17, at about 5.45am.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat requested a new date pending the chemist’s report, while no bail was offered given the gravity of the charge.
The magistrate then set trial on January 19, 2017 for Kan and January 9, 2017 for Koo.
No plea was recorded from the two accused.
Meanwhile, a youth was jailed for five months by the same court, for possessing syabu.
Mahadir James, 18, was ordered to serve his sentence after he admitted to having 0.01 gramme of the drugs near Taman Jaya Diri here on September 23, around 11am.
The offence was framed under Section 12(2) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years, or both, on conviction.
