BN Youth to hold meeting on Tanjong Datu by-election soon

-

KUCHING: The Youth Wing of state Barisan Nasional (BN) will convene a meeting very soon to prepare for the Tanjong Datu byelection, which will be held on Feb 18.

Its chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the meeting will involve the youth movements of all the state BN component parties to chart the necessary preparations for the election.

The state BN consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP).

“I am going to have our first meeting with other component parties to help prepare for the election,” he said yesterday, without disclosing the date.

He was met at the lobby of PBB headquarters at Jalan Bako after the announcement of Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu as the BN candidate for the Tanjong Datu by-election.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at a packed press conference.

Fadillah, who is Works Minister, assured of strong support from the state BN youth to ensure a convincing win for the BN candidate.

“We are ready, we have in fact started everything including campaign materials… we will be working very closely and support Dato Sri Wan Junaidi (Tuanku Jaafar) as the operation director.

“We will also support the main committee and are ready to start with our programmes immediately after nomination day,” he stressed.

Nomination day for the by-election is Feb 4.

According to Fadillah, BN stands a better chance of winning the seat since the seat is a BN stronghold, stressing that the candidate has been very instrumental in helping her husband, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan, in meeting the people and co-ordinating various programmes, including the activities by non-governmental organisations.

“The candidate (Jamilah Anu) has always been on the ground with the late Tok Nan meeting with the people and I believe the people will give her the votes... and BN has made the correct choice in picking her and we are going to support her throughout,” he pointed out.

Fadillah believes that the voters will reciprocate what the late Adenan had brought to the area by voting for the BN candidate.
