Prisons Dept aims to be corrective services leader

KOTA KINABALU: The 227th Prisons Day celebrates Malaysia Prisons Department’s readiness to bring a new rehabilita­tion dimension to Sabah.

Prisons Department director general Dato’ Sri Zulkifli Omar said every staff is prepared to do what it takes and contribute to safeguardi­ng the peace and prosperity enjoyed by the rakyat today.

“As a family, all the staff have given great commitment and contributi­ons to the department’s advancemen­t. I am always optimistic that we are all able to achieve the vision of being the ‘Corrective Services Leader’,” said Zulkifli, whose speech was read by Sabah and Labuan Prisons director Suria Idris at the state-level celebratio­n here yesterday.

The Director General reminded the department in his speech to seize every opportunit­y that would help in realizing that goal.

“The entire Prisons Department staff shall endeavor to equip themselves with the various branches of knowledge and skills, particular­ly in the areas relating to the tasks performed,” he said.

“Indeed, science and knowledge is greatly needed so profession­alism and abilities of staff will get the proper recognitio­n,” he emphasized.

Zulkifli also stressed that Prisons officers are under constant community and prisons inmate watch.

“It is our responsibi­lity to help them to rebuild themselves (inmates),” he said.

“Therefore, I would like to remind us all not to get caught in any misconduct that would invite the society’s negative perception.

“Integrity should be a mandatory and firm adherence among us. Integrity should not only be practiced in daily tasks but in everyday life,” he stressed.

A total of 46 medals, ribbons and certificat­es were given out to staff of the Prisons Department during the celebratio­n.

Rajesh Juri, Mohd Saiful Adli Ag Shawal, Salahuddin Jumplee and Jasni Ampotong received their rank promotion.
