Prisons Dept aims to be corrective services leader
KOTA KINABALU: The 227th Prisons Day celebrates Malaysia Prisons Department’s readiness to bring a new rehabilitation dimension to Sabah.
Prisons Department director general Dato’ Sri Zulkifli Omar said every staff is prepared to do what it takes and contribute to safeguarding the peace and prosperity enjoyed by the rakyat today.
“As a family, all the staff have given great commitment and contributions to the department’s advancement. I am always optimistic that we are all able to achieve the vision of being the ‘Corrective Services Leader’,” said Zulkifli, whose speech was read by Sabah and Labuan Prisons director Suria Idris at the state-level celebration here yesterday.
The Director General reminded the department in his speech to seize every opportunity that would help in realizing that goal.
“The entire Prisons Department staff shall endeavor to equip themselves with the various branches of knowledge and skills, particularly in the areas relating to the tasks performed,” he said.
“Indeed, science and knowledge is greatly needed so professionalism and abilities of staff will get the proper recognition,” he emphasized.
Zulkifli also stressed that Prisons officers are under constant community and prisons inmate watch.
“It is our responsibility to help them to rebuild themselves (inmates),” he said.
“Therefore, I would like to remind us all not to get caught in any misconduct that would invite the society’s negative perception.
“Integrity should be a mandatory and firm adherence among us. Integrity should not only be practiced in daily tasks but in everyday life,” he stressed.
A total of 46 medals, ribbons and certificates were given out to staff of the Prisons Department during the celebration.
Rajesh Juri, Mohd Saiful Adli Ag Shawal, Salahuddin Jumplee and Jasni Ampotong received their rank promotion.
