KUCHING: The Sarawak Regional Yoyo Contest (SRYC) attracted 25 yoyo players who had the chance to show-off their skill and passion in a one-day competition held at Kuching Sentral last Sunday.

The event, organised by Sport Club Yo-Blitz Kuching, aimed at bringing back the old school toy known as the yoyo. The players came from near and far including Kota Padawan, Samarahan, Kuching, Bau and Terengganu.

“Since the past decade, this toy has been forgotten and now Sport Club Yo-Blitz Kuching is bringing back this skill toy again, to encourage the youth in Sarawak to come out and engage on this healthy sport and to nurture the talent and passion of yo-yo," said club founder Ryan Han. They had competed in five categories which include 1A Division, X Division, Junior Division, Open Division and the Long Sleeper Division.

They were judged based on cleanliness, variation, rareness, execution, music use, body control, space use and showmanship by professional yoyo players including Jojo Sim, Wesley Lim You Yang, Ridzwan Ngataman and Stanley Low Jia Cheng from Terengganu.

Lim You Kang from Terengganu emerged as champion, while first and second runner-ups in the Junior Division category were Joshua Hii Ci En (Kuching) and Raden Muhammad Harith (Kuching) respectively.

In the X Division category, Wesley Lim was the champion while Adi Hisham Mohtar was second and Asnu Minzian Ilman was third.
