How can people know what to expect at university? Here is what students studying medicine at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) experience: Tools for a Successful Career in Medicine: The five year long Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) curriculum is designed to provide a general medical education for all types of doctors, and a foundation for later career specialization. NUMed’s integrated approach sweeps away the traditional divide between pre-clinical and clinical training, and focuses from the outset on the development of clinical competence.

World Class Teaching: NUMed Malaysia is 100% owned by the leading UK University, Newcastle University. Therefore the MBBS degree, just like our BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences Programme and Foundation Certificate, is conferred by Newcastle University UK. Newcastle University, part of the esteemed UK Russell Group, has more than 175 years of history and a world-class reputation for research excellence, so you can be certain that you will receive an excellent education during your time with us.

Affordable Education: Studying the MMBS programme at NUMed means you are getting the same quality of tuition as studying at the UK campus, but at a fraction of the cost. As Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Idris bin Jusoh, stated in a speech at NUMed: “Newcastle has succeeded already in providing an affordable world-class UK medical education for a broad range of Malaysian and international students here in Malaysia.”

Study Abroad Opportunities: Ever since the British university opened a branch-campus for medicine and biomedical science in Johor in 2009, NUMed students have been offered the opportunity to study for short periods in the UK - and almost all take advantage of it. Similarities from design of the campus to the style of teaching help the students adapt quickly to life in the UK, which maximises the time they have to benefit from the experience.

State-of-the-Art Facilities: We have unparalleled medical facilities at our campus. Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General of Health, Ministry of Health, said we -had the best medical school in Malaysia when he visited our campus!

Active Social Programme: NUMed is also about having fun outside of work. There is a busy student social calendar organised by the NUMed student association which has helped create over 20 student societies, clubs and organisations. The event highlights range from a Winter Ball to a Deepavali Night to a Talent night, all providing the diverse student populations with an opportunity to socialise across all cohorts.

High quality, safe and secure

accommodation: You will be living in recently finished self-catering apartments, complete with your own study bedroom that shares a central kitchen, living, and bathroom with fellow students. You have free wireless internet, 24-hour gated security, swimming pool and a gym. All a 10-minute drive to the campus with free, regular transport to the campus and surrounding areas.

Opportunity to Register with Two Medical

Councils: Malaysians who study medicine at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) and carry out their postgraduate clinical training programme in selected Malaysian hospitals can now apply for full registration as doctors with the UK General Medical Council (GMC) as well as the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

An Excellent Medical School: “An established and impressive school. The medical school is excellent, the student support is commended and exemplary, the quality of NUMed’s graduates is as good as the UK and the students are engaged and exceptionally articulate” was the viewpoint of an international and independent regulator. About NUMed Newcastle University UK has established an international branch campus in Johor, Malaysia to provide its undergraduate degrees in Medicine (MB BS) and the Biomedical Sciences (BSc). Both programmes offer opportunities for periods of study in the UK. A one year Foundation Certificate in Biological and Biomedical Sciences is also available, the successful completion of which will lead to progression to the MB BS or BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences programme. All programmes of study are equivalent to those of Newcastle’s UK-based provision, and lead to the award of the same degrees. By choosing to study at NUMed Malaysia, students will obtain a reputable UK qualification, from an internationally recognized university, at a cost significantly less than that of studying in the UK.
