Two new courses launched at UMS
KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has introduced two new courses - Government and International Relations and Islamic Recitation Program.
They were launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday.
“These courses are not only for our officers from the federal and state governments but also for the people of Sabah to further their studies in improving knowledge on current issues happening all over the world,” he said.
“In understanding the political scenario and interconnected international issues today, the Government and International Relations course is timely and relevant.
“We need to learn from conflicts happening in several countries so that we can prevent it from happening here in Malaysia. At the same time, the people of Sabah and the policy makers should understand this issue, which is related to domestic politics,” he said.
Musa, who also UMS Pro-Chancellor, added the Islamic Recitation Program is another important course to spread the real teaching of Islam, as a religion encouraging unity and harmony.
UMS Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Harun Abdullah said the Government and International Relations course is open for full time and part time, which focuses on research.
“We will improve promotions and collaboration with government bodies to introduce this course to their staff,” he added.
Government and International Relations is created to understand issues such as ‘how, when and why’ in the context of the dynamic relationship between countries.
The program offers a combination of theory and empirical analysis, providing a space to study the historical development and current issues relating to international politics.
Among the courses offered are theories of international relations, international political economy, regional political, security research and current issues of international relations.
Also present yesterday were the director of Sabah Institute for Development Studies, Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub and director of Sabah National Civic Bureau, Datuk Armizan Mohd. Ali.
