Tawfiq confident TMJ can strengthen M’sian football
TAWAU: Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan welcomes the mandate given by all Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) stakeholders in choosing Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim as the 6th FAM president.
Tawfiq said with the new line-up, they should be given the opportunity to improve Malaysian football.
“Therefore, we are confident with TMJ’s commitment especially in forming a Johor Darul Takzim football team that is feared not only in the country but also Asia, his majesty can bring the same experience and know-how to strengthen Malaysian football,” he said yesterday.
He said Sabah will give its solid support with the election of Sabah Football Association (Safa) supreme council member Joehari Mohd Ayub also chosen as FAM vice president.
Tawfiq said Sabah is confident its input and views will be considered by the new FAM management.
Meanwhile, Sabah Football Association (Safa) Tawau district congratulated Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim who won the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president post unopposed.
Its president Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said TMJ’s appointment was definitely awaited and hoped for by football fans in Tawau.
“Our hopes are high for the country with TMJ at the helm,” he said when chairing the Safa Tawau district Annual General Meeting here on Saturday.
Nizam also called on members to be united and cooperate to form a formidable Tawau team with the hope that one day it can produce a team to represent Tawau in the FAM league.
However, he said it is not an easy task as support is needed from all quarters and the cost is high, but adding that nothing is impossible.
Nizam called for total commitment from all members and, as Safa Tawau district’s president, he will always help in whatever manner he can.
