New graduates told of importance of digital literacy

-

PUTATAN: Digital literacy is among the skills that fresh graduates of today need to equip themselves with, said INTI College Sabah chief executive Roselyn Chua.

“Despite the many opportunities in this day and age, youths remain unemployed at a high rate.

“To curb this issue, youths need to realise that professional development doesn’t stop upon graduation.

“You must be mindful of the need to keep upskilling yourself, whether through certifications or the connections you build.”

She said this to students present for the launch of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) room in conjunction with the college’s first career fair, which received participation from 16 employers in the hospitality and business industries.

Roselyn added that she hoped the first room sponsored by an INTI partner will serve as a sign of the ongoing partnership between the college and ACCA in Sabah, in terms of career projects on campus.

Council member and immediate past president of ACCA, Datuk Alexandra Chin, added that it was high time the certification course was made available in Sabah.

“As one of the fastest growing states in the country, it is important for ACCA to extend its professional qualification to those in Sabah.

“Most of those from previous batches had to study outside Kota Kinabalu with the nearest in Kuala Lumpur, and they don’t come back to their state after that due to various reasons.

“This imposes a loss for the state, so it is important to provide this certification in their own backyard,” she said.

The INTI Sabah career fair, partaken by industry leaders such as Hilton Hotel and Maxis, saw students submitting resumes and meeting with prospective employers to obtain feedback on their curriculum vitae and whether or not it met certain criteria, as well as how to improve.
