Duo jailed for trespassing building staircase

-

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were jailed 14 days by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for trespassing.

Suarin Majawor and Mohd Alif Sedingki pleaded guilty before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to breaking into a building staircase area on May 19.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Rasydan Jasni told the court that a security guard who was on duty at the control room of the building saw the two accused persons at that area and caught them for trespassing.

In pleading for a lenient sentence, the second accused explained that he was working as a security guard at another place and had worked overtime.

Mohd Alif said he did not go home that night as there was no more bus service, so he decided to stay in the city.

He added that initially he was sleeping somewhere in the same building but a security guard there had asked him not to sleep there.

He said the co-accused brought him to sleep at the staircase as he (first accused) was a former security guard there.

They then slept there and were arrested while they were sleeping.

In a separate case, Awang Azman Awang Damit, 43, was sentenced to 26 months’ jail after he admitted to trespassing into a house in Penampang and stole a car, a laptop, a television set and 200 pieces of coins on March 8.

The accused, who had two drug abuse convictions, was also jailed another 60 months and ordered to be given two strokes of the cane for committing a similar offence.

The same court ordered the accused to serve his jail sentences consecutively.
