TM aims to create rich Sabahans via ICT utilisation

-

KOTA KINABALU: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) hopes to play a role in creating a wealthy community in Sabah by providing awareness on the importance of information and communications technology (ICT) utilisation.

TM Sabah State General Manager, Sukkuriya Masri, said Sabah had a lot of potential to excel in its effort to grow the economy, but some businesses in the state were still using conventional business methods.

“Why we are seeing more tourists from China coming to Sabah is because they are seen as rich people due to their early adoption of ICT. It is not too late for us to get into the digital world in order to be more advanced and TM can help companies do business easier,” he said at the launch of the TM Biz Fusion 2017 yesterday.

The seminar was launched by Sabah Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Datuk Bolkiah Ismail. According to Sukkuriya, about 40,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sabah subscribed to TM services, but some 27,000 out of that number were using broadband services.

Meanwhile, Bolkiah said the transformation of information technology augured well in Sabah as the state government embarks on seeking new ways to expand the economy.

“We are now in a new industrial revolution of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. This new industrial revolution has apparently created greater impact on the business sector and our lives as well and it has enabled to enhance our operational efficiency,” he said.

Bolkiah urged all sectors, including the government sector, to take the opportunity to adapt to the appropriate technologies to enhance their competitiveness and efficiency.
