Free Uber rides during Kaamatan
KOTA KINABALU: In an effort to add convenience to Kaamatan revellers, the KDCA Youth Council and Uber Malaysia have teamed up to provide free Uber rides.
KDCA Youth Council chairman Ceasar Mandela Malakun said starting from May 26 through May 31, each Uber user would get four free rides around the city, worth RM7 each.
“To get the free ride, users just have to type in the promo code KAAMATAN17 in their Uber App.
“And for May 30 and 31, there will be another promotion where users get four free rides to and from KDCA Hongkod Koisaan in Penampang, worth RM7. All they have to do is to type in the promo code, KDCAKK17 to get it.
“However, if the ride is worth more than RM7, users have to top up the difference,” he said while thanking Uber Malaysia for the collaboration.
According to Mandela, the free rides are part of KDCA Youth Council’s effort to facilitate the celebration of the festival by providing convenience to the public.
He said the promotion would ease the traffic congestion and the parking space in the area.
“It is also to promote safety to road users as people would not have to drive under the influence of alcohol any more.
“There will be a designated dropoff and pick-up points, or visitors can just head on to the International Hospitality counter located at the main gate for assistance,” he added.
Mandela said the idea was the brainchild of all KDCA youth members to improve the way Kaamatan was being celebrated, with convenience and safety in mind.
He also announced that KDCA had launched its mobile app called KDCA Official where users could get information on Kaamatan and other related Kadazandusun cultural activities.
“Users are invited to download the app from both Google Play and Apple App Store for free,” he said, adding that the app would be updated for improvement from time to time.
Meanwhile, when launching the SMK Limbanak Kaamatan Festival here yesterday, Mandela urged school students to fill their school holidays with beneficial activities that can boost their academic performance.
He said students should take the opportunity to spend time with their families while not forgetting their school lessons.
“I know you have been waiting for the school holidays which will start next week, as you want to take a break from your daily school activities, but please utilise the time you have to study and please spend more time with your families,” he said.
Mandela also commended the students of the school for their efforts in preserving their traditional cultures by wearing and showcasing the traditional attires of the ethnic groups in Sabah.
He said the effort showed that students could also help in preserving the natives’ traditional cultures, and the effort should be continued in the future.
Also present at the event were Penampang assistant education officer Richard Godomon, SMK Limbanak principal Denis Gompion, and SMK Limbanak PTA chairperson Isidore Lajawah.
