Man charged with possessing cannabis

KOTA KINABALU: A man stood trial at the Sessions Court here yesterday for allegedly possessing 179.9 grams of cannabis.

Mohd Shafiq Abd Ghaffar, 27, who was brought before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamed, was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 39A (2) (f) of the same Act.

Mohd Shafiq was accused of possessing the drug at a house in Putatan at 4.15pm on January 30.

The accused was ordered to be held in custody pending disposal of his case, as the alleged offence was non-bailable.

In an unrelated case, two persons were jailed two months by another Sessions Court here for separate charges of violating their social visit passes.

Eluna Mijares Domingues, 47, and Mohd Mazlan Diki Mohd Yunus, 30, admitted before judge Elsie Primus, to their charges framed under Section 39 (b) of the Immigratio­n Act.

The two accused persons were arrested for violating their social visit passes by working at a restaurant in Beaufort on May 8.

Meanwhile, Ehbeth Saladago, 31, and Ibrahim Ramano, 25, were sentenced to three months’ jail each after they pleaded guilty to entering the state illegally.
