Ministry takes serious view of sexual crimes involving children – Chong

-

SEREMBAN: The Education Ministry (KPM) takes a serious view of a report which says 61 per cent of the 12, 926 sexual crime cases in the past three years involved children.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon, however, said there were many more such cases which were not reported over fear and shame.

“The report is very worrying and if we were to dig into the issue, I believe there are many unreported incidents...this is just the tip of the iceberg.

“I am also calling on parents to be more sensitive to changes in their children and to keep an open mind to discuss the problems faced by their children,” he told reporters after opening the library of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Chi Hwa yesterday.

Chong was commenting on the statement of Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim yesterday which reported 61 per cent of the 12,926 sexual crime victims in the past three years involved children. - Bernama
