Live chicken seller blames low homecoming crowd for poor sales

-

SIBU: Fewer people returning home for this Gawai Dayak Festival has been blamed for the drop in the sales of live chiken.

Chicken vendor Chew Ang Liong said that usually around this time they would be experiencing brisk business.

“But this year, this business is slow and our sales have dropped compared to previous years. I think this has to do with fewer people heading home for the celebration. Perhaps, better road connectivity is also a reason for the sluggish business.

“And because of this, lower number of people are making use of express boat unlike in the past. I still recall previously, people would drop by my stall to obtain their supplies before heading to the terminal,” he told reporters yesterday.

Chew plies his business at a makeshift stall beside the terminal and with the help of family members, operates round-the-clock selling eggs and chicken.

He started trading there on Thursday and would operate until the eve of Gawai.
