‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot coming to theatres in 2019

-

AFTER first being announced a year ago, the latest reboot of the famous 1970s TV show has now secured a release date for US movie theatres. The film, directed by actress Elizabeth Banks, is slated for release June 7, 2019.

Fans will have to wait two years to catch Columbia Pictures’ latest take on “Charlie’s Angels” on the big screen, rebooting the world-famous trio of super-smart and super-sexy sleuths.

No actresses have yet been linked to the film, which is being directed by Elizabeth Banks, who played Effie Trinket in the “Hunger Games” movies. This will be her second motion picture, after 2015’s “Pitch Perfect 2.”

“Charlie’s Angels” was originally an American TV show that ran from 1976 to 1981 on the ABC network. Over the course of the show’s five seasons, Jaclyn Smith, Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts all stepped into roles as the private investigators, working for the mysterious Charlie, who is never seen onscreen.

Columbia Pictures previously brought the Angels to the big screen in the year 2000, with a movie starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the three private detectives. A sequel, which saw the three lead stars joined by Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and Justin Theroux, came three years later.

ABC also attempted to revive its hit series of the 1970s, with the help of Rachael Taylor (“Jessica Jones”), Minka Kelly (“Jane the Virgin”) and Annie Ilonzeh (“All Eyez on Me”) in the lead roles. The remake, which aired in 2011, was dropped after just seven episodes after failing to draw TV audiences. — Relaxnews
