35 illegals arrested in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Thirty five people, including 14 children, were detained during an integrated operation to flush out illegal immigrants in and around the state capital.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said among those detained were eight Filipino men, nine Filipino women, nine Filipino children, an Indonesian couple, five Indonesian children and a local man without any identifica­tion.

Police also arrested a drug addict during the eight-hour operation that began at 1.30am on May 26, said Chandra.

The operation, said Chandra, was carried out at Inanam Point, Kampung Tatahan, Inanam, and Kg Bantayan in Inanam, Taman BDC in Kolombong, and an illegal squarter colony behind Servay Hypermarke­t in Likas.

All those detained, ranging from five months to 60 years old, were taken to the Karamunsin­g police headquarte­rs to be investigat­ed under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act, while the drug addict would be charged under Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, said Chandra.

Chandra added that such operation would be carried out from time to time to flush out illegal immigrants who are still staying in the state capital.

The focus of such operation, said Chandra, was also to combat unhealthy and criminal activities at several hot-spot areas.

He also thanked the public for their continuous cooperatio­n with the police and look forward to such cooperatio­n in the future.
