Ten An, a role model in heading three associations — Teo
KOTA KINABALU: The competence and capability of Sabahan Chinese community leaders are gaining recognition among national associations as more and more of them are involved in and leading societies at the national level, said Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang.
Teo encouraged more Chinese leaders in Sabah to join activities organized by national associations, as well as helming the societies to unleash their leadership skills and talents on a broader platform in order to serve more clan members better.
He said this at the joint celebration of the fifth anniversary cum third installation ceremony of The United Association of Chinese Clans Sabah, 22nd anniversary of Kota Kinabalu Huang Clan (Jiang-Xia) Association Sabah, and 40th anniversary cum 21st installation ceremony of the Huang Association of Malaysia on Friday.
All three associations are led by property developer Datuk Wong Ten An while his wife Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen is the secretary of the associations.
Teo said the three associations played a vital role in uniting the Chinese community and urged the younger generation to join clan associations to safeguard the interests of their clan.
Teo added that Ten An is the pride and role model of Sabahans for leading The United Association of Chinese Clans, Kota Kinabalu Huang Clan (JiangXia) Association Sabah and the Huang Association of Malaysia.
The United Association of Chinese Clans has 19 member associations while the Huang Association of Malaysia has 41 member associations nationwide.
Meanwhile, Ten An said clan associations were effective platforms to unite the Chinese community.
He said many clan associations in the world had gone global, and therefore, he urged the Chinese community to join and take part in the promotion and development of clan associations.
Ten An believed that there would be more clan associations being established in Sabah in the future.
