Vietnamese woman stabbed to death allegedly by jealous boyfriend

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 28-year-old woman who was stabbed to death outside her hostel in Taman Belimbing, Bukit Tengah here was believed to be a victim of a crime of passion.

It is learnt that the deceased, Tin Mar Moe from Myanmar was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend after he came to know of her affair with another man.

In the 7.30pm incident on Friday, the suspect was said to be waiting for Tin outside her hostel just before she returned home from work in a factory bus.

The 26-year-old suspect then confronted Tin, who ran towards the hostel compound and a struggle ensued.

Tin collapsed after she was stabbed several times with a knife.

Nik Ros Azhan said the bus driver noticed the incident, and when he came to the victim’s aid, the suspect fled.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said a police team rushed to the scene upon receiving a call from the public.

The suspect had already fled when police arrived at the crime scene.

He said initial investigat­ions revealed that the victim sustained six stab wounds on her body and believed jealousy to be the motive.

A police K9 unit was brought to assist investigat­ions and within an hour the suspect was caught hiding inside a drain about 70 metres away from the crime scene.

He said police also recovered a 26-cm knife, believed to be the murder weapon, from the suspect.

The body was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

ACP Nik Ros Azhan said the case is being investigat­ed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, adding that the suspect has been remanded for two weeks to allow investigat­ions.
