Jealous man fined for causing hurt

KOTA KINABALU: A man was fined RM2,000, in default, three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for causing hurt.

Sim Pei Kiang pleaded guilty before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to causing hurt to the victim at an entertainm­ent outlet in Bundusan, Penampang on January 7.

The undefended accused was convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector James Paran told the court that on January 11, a complainan­t lodged a police report stating that while he was having a drink at an entertainm­ent outlet, he was beaten and attacked by a man due to a misunderst­anding. The complainan­t received treatment at a hospital here as there was a cut on his right eyebrow.

Investigat­ion revealed that the complainan­t had brought Sim’s girlfriend to the said place which caused the accused to feel angry and the accused was also drunk during the incident.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a man to 24 months’ jail for trying to steal a gas cylinder from a restaurant.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun meted out the sentence to Mohd Khadurie Mohd Penin after he pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 511 of the same Code.

The indictment carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused admitted to attempting to steal the item in Putatan on May 7.

The facts of the case stated that a complainan­t lodged a report on the same day after being informed by one of his workers, who saw a man (later known as the accused) trying to steal the gas cylinder but failed and ran away.

On May 11, the accused was arrested by the police for further investigat­ion.

The court also ordered the accused to serve his jail term from the date of his arrest.
