Kokol Nature Adventure Challenge back for 4th edition

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Kokol Nature Adventure Challenge is back for its fourth edition and will be held on September 24.

Casero Events managing director Steve Johnny Mositun said all running enthusiasts are invited to join the annual competition.

Steve said the same categories will be maintained from when the tournament was renamed from Kokol Duathlon in 2015.

Following the encouraging response to last year’s edition, which featured the same categories, only minor changes would be introduced this time around.

“We will be maintaining the 17km route for both the men’s and women’s open (18-39 years) where a river section will be the challenge aside from the hilly parts of the route.

“The men’s and women’s veteran (40 and above) will cover a 15km route without the river section and this year, it will be counter clockwise compared to the previous year’s track,” he said when met here yesterday.

The event featured participants in a two-person team, where one member would run while another would cycle to complete the challenge.

However, the recent edition only featured running and Steve said that was when they decided to change the name to the Kokol Nature Adventure Challenge.

Meanwhile, Steve said Casero was happy to enjoy continued backing from those who supported the tournament from previous years.

“We are happy to have Villaku Boutique Homestay as the official venue for the fourth straight year and we are happy to get support again from Inanam community development leader Fredoline Totin and his team,” he said.

Steve is also happy that the tournament has allowed the progress of tourism activities in the Kokol.

“It is always our mission and vision that Kokol receive plenty of local and international guests. We believe the benefits from those activities help give the locals more work opportunities so more events will help boost the whole area,” he said.

More than RM9,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs, including some fabulous lucky draw giveaways.

Registration fee is RM120 for both the men’s and women’s open and RM110 for the men’s and women’s veteran. There will be a limited slot of 300 entries for this year’s race.

The closing date for registration is on August 20. Registered entries will receive an event T-shirt, finisher’s medal, race bib, timing wrist tag, lucky draw coupon and E-certificate.
