UMS VC appointment proves Sabahans capable – CM
KOTA KINABALU: The appointment of Prof Dr D. Kamarudin D. Mudin as Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor proves that the people of Sabah have the capability and ability and have gained the recognition of the federal government, specifically the Malaysian Higher Education Ministry.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman expressed his appreciation to all quarters for their support and concern on the appointment of Prof Dr D. Kamarudin to the post of UMS Vice-Chancellor.
“I take this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh for the trust given to the people of Sabah,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Musa said the Sabah state government congratulated Dr D. Kamarudin, 49, who would replace Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, whose tenure would end on June 17, to become the fifth vice-chancellor of UMS.
He believed Dr D. Kamarudin could lead UMS more excellently with his experience and qualification.
Dr D. Kamarudin is a C Special Grade Professor (Medicine) with expertise in anesthesiology and was the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and had held the post of UMS deputy Vice-Chancellor in April 2015.
Dr D. Kamarudin, who hails from Kota Belud, had served the Health Ministry at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for 12 years before joining UMS in 2004. - Bernama
