Run for National Unity returns
PETALING JAYA: The Run for National Unity 2017 has returned for the second consecutive year; this time expanding its category to schoolchildren.
Minister in the Prime Minister''s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup during the soft launching of the upcoming event said he hoped to see more active participation from schools in the unity run.
"With the participation of our children from various culture, race and religion, this would be the best platform to sow the seeds of patriotism and national unity," he said here, yesterday.
Promoting national unity and harmony through its tagline #Cintainegaraku, the inaugural unity run, held in conjunction with Malaysia Day would be flagged off at 7.30am at Padang Merbuk in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.
Kurup said the recent global violence was a good reminder of how important it was for the rakyat to join hands in building the country that the people and future generations could be proud of.
"To reinforce this, I appeal to the private sector to be more proactive towards this end by adopting or sponsoring schools to participate in groups in the unity run," he said, urging other government agencies to collaborate with private sectors to promote national unity as well.
The unity run, which is also organised to raise funds for deserving students to pursue their tertiary education is expected to attract a total of 2,500 participants.
The unity run would be held in 13 categories and finishers would receive medals, certificate, tshirt, goodie bag and also stand a chance to win attractive lucky draw prizes.
