Free new clothes for 25 underprivileged kids
KOTA KINABALU: Clothing store Kainmewah, together with Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Station Sabah FM, yesterday brought cheers to 25 orphans and other children from Rumah Amal Kasih by giving them the opportunity to choose free new baju Melayu, jubah and baju kurung.
The act of charity at the Kainmewah Emadira outlet was carried out in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Kainmewah managing director Ibrahim M.E. Sikkandar said a similar programme was held last year and they have adopted it as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices to help the needy.
He said they also provided Raya clothes for orphans from the city last year.
“We hope the kids will be happy to be able to select their own clothes which they can wear during Syawal,” he said.
He also said that they have a variety of Hari Raya collection as well as quality textiles from abroad.
The principal of the charity home, Jamri Sapari, expressed his gratitude to Kainmewah for its contribution.
He added that the home was established in 2013 and needed assistance in the form of cash and other to help the orphans.
He also said that there were presently 26 people living at the home, and that the number is expected to increase as they have received 46 applications since December last year.
One of the children, Nursyazwanie Jalil, 13, who has lived at the home since 2013, said she was very happy with the gift.
Nursyazwanie suffers from a heart ailment and was sent to the Rumah Amal Kasih by her parents as they cannot afford to pay for her treatment.
Siti Norain Aiman, 14, who lost her parents to cancer, is residing at Rumah Amal Kasih with her youngest sibling.
She said it was at the new home that she found the will to carry on living and forget about her sadness.
She added that some of her siblings have decided to continue residing at their family home in Likas.
She also expressed her gratitude to Kainmewah for the treat.
