Ensure Kota Belud town kept clean — Rahman

-

KOTA KINABALU: Local authorities in Kota Belud must ensure the cleanliness of the town is at the highest level, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said.

This is because the local authority is responsible for the cleanliness of the town, the Kota Belud member of parliament said.

Abdul Rahman said this when asked to comment on complaints of uncollected rubbish at the tamu area prior to Friday evening.

“I received many complaints from the media and public about the cleanliness or lack of it at the tamu area. Rubbish had been dumped there and were not collected. I want the District Council to increase its efforts to clean up the area.

“As all of you are aware, I have approved the construction of a Bazaar Rakyat which will replace the Pasar Tani in Kota Belud town and while the building is being constructed, those doing business at the Pasar Tani will be temporarily relocated to the tamu.

This means that there will be more people using the tamu area. Therefore the level of cleanliness needs to be increased.

“I want this problem resolved. When I was Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, the District council was allocated rubbish bins and RoRo among others and I want all this to be used. I will be speaking to the local authorities to ensure the cleanliness at the tamu area,” he said.
