LAHAD DATU: Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Radin Malleh said the government was committed and was actively implementing various reforms and improvement initiatives to improve the performance of the security services and the welfare of the members of the security forces.

He said the security forces required the cooperation and commitment of officers and staff at all levels.

“Efforts to strengthen unity, maintain community harmony and defend security also involve cooperation and responsibility of all levels of society,” he said at the presentation of Hari Raya goodies and breaking of fast with the security forces at Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) marine police operations hall here on Friday.

Radin, who represented Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said efforts to maintain the security and sovereignty of the country and curb aggression and activities of transnational crime, particularly in Sabah, were very important for the peace that was being enjoyed today.

“I hope the security forces on duty in East Coast Zone are always vigilant and careful in their respective duties and responsibilities.

“I hope the security forces that operate in the East Coast Zone or ESSZone, will continue to enhance the level of preparedness for the success of the vision, mission and the role of ESSCom to improve the safety, well-being and confidence of the people,” he said.

He said any upheavals in neighbouring countries which would have an impact on the stability, security and development of the state should be monitored and analysed by ESSCom.

“I also hope ESSCom will implement the program in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in the areas concerned. In my programs with the JKKK bodies in Sabah, I often remind them to cooperate with the security forces to monitor the security in their areas, including combating the presence of illegal immigrants, “he said.

Radin said the inaugural program, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri, was a channel to further increase cooperation, interaction and understanding between members of PBS and the security forces in Sabah.

The event was attended by officials and members of the Royal Malaysian Police, marine police, general operations force, armed forces and APMM, with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leaders in the east coast of Sabah.

Also present were PBS deputy president Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman, Brigadier General Hamdan Ismail of ESSCom, PBS information chief Datuk Jahid Jahim, Lahad Datu police headquarters representative ASP Fadzil Ali, Battalion 17 general operations force representative ASP Salleh Eraji, Maritime Base APMM representative Lt (M) Muhammad Zariff Mat Yunus, members of PBS Supreme Council, PBS Youth and Wanita excos and PBS division heads in East Coast zone.
