Students told to choose careers that fit interest, skills
KENINGAU: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup stressed that it is important for students to choose the right careers that match their skills and interest in the job market.
“I believe every student has the ambition and goal to choose a career in the future,” he said when opening the Aspirations Program held at SMK Keningau hall here yesterday.
According to him, it was found that choosing a career that suits a student's interest was among the the issues often raised by students.
He said career planning was not an easy task because many students had the tendency to make career decisions without fully understanding the choices they had made.
Therefore, he said, making the wrong choice could result in students choosing careers that they had no interest, thus making it difficult for them to succeed in their careers and this would affect their future.
He advised students to seek proper guidance when making decisions about future careers route.
Kurup stressed that the government would remain committed to improving and strengthening the education system in the state.
However, he said in a very competitive career world, the government also needed to produce academically excellent students and highly skilled human capital.
