Angkasa, Cuepacs to cooperate for welfare of civil servants, GLC employees

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Strategic cooperation between Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) and the Congress of Unions for Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) will be established to protect the welfare of 1.7 million civil servants and government-linked company (GLC) employees.

Angkasa president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said the cooperation would enable Angkasa and Cuepacs to find the best solutions on issues related to the group to be brought to the government.

“We will look at their problems comprehensively and we will find strategies to solve the issues such as the rising cost of living and others in order to protect their interests,” he said after the opening of the 35th annual general meeting of Koperasi KOSPETA Malaysia Berhad yesterday.

Also present was Cuepacs president cum Koperasi KOSPETA Malaysia Berhad chairman, Datuk Azih Muda. KOSPETA is the Multipurpose Cooperative of Employees in the Local Authorities.

In the meantime, Azih said Cuepacs hoped the government would consider the views from Angkasa and Cuepacs before implementing any policies related to civil servants and GLC employees.

“We want the government not to isolate us (Angkasa and Cuepacs) so we can give our opinions such as in the budget discussion and drafting of new laws,” he said.

On another matter, Azih said the government needed to fix the minimum wage for civil servants to RM4,000 by 2020.

“With the current minimum wage of RM1,200, the civil servants can’t even to afford to have a house. If there is anyone who says with RM1,200 salary they can buy a house, I think that is a big lie, unless the government gives 90 percent subsidy,” he said. - Bernama
