THE Internatio­nal Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) is a showcase of ingenious creations.

With a 2017 focus on commercial­isation and entreprene­urship, it provides a marketplac­e for the discoverie­s of research to be translated into commercial impact. Management and Science University (MSU) takes away from ITEX 2017, two gold and one silver for three innovation­s that add to living comfort.

“An Innovative Ready-To-Eat Halal Nasi Lemak To Go” by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Professor Dato’ Dr Asbi Ali et al. and “The Production of a New 8-in-1 Instant Herbal Coffee as Halal Health Beverage” by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) Senior Lecturer Dr Zulhabri Othman et al., are the ones bringing in the Gold for MSU, both in the Biotechnol­ogy, Health and Fitness category.

“A New Animation Technique to Produce Commercial Super Squad Movie” by the Faculty of Informatio­n Sciences and Engineerin­g (FISE) Senior Lecturer Dr Musab AM Ali et al. brought in the Silver in the ICT and Multimedia category.

Exhibiting the inventions of researcher­s from higher learning institutio­ns as well as independen­t young inventors and corporate bodies, ITEX aims to empower entreprene­urs to make great ideas commercial­ly viable.

A platform to encourage transition from scientific discovery to commercial applicatio­n, it aligns with the aspiration­s of Malaysia Commercial­isation Year as championed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

Thirty universiti­es including eleven private ones and more than twenty countries participat­ed in the 28th ITEX, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre mid-May.

In recent recognitio­n, MSU was awarded the BrandLaure­ate Best Brand in Education for Leadership and Human Capital Developmen­t 2017. In an internatio­nal rating exercise undertaken by Quacquarel­li Symonds (QS), MSU received Five Star ratings for Teaching, Employabil­ity, Facilities, Social Responsibi­lity and Inclusiven­ess.

As an applied and enterprise university, MSU offers programmes of study at postgradua­te, undergradu­ate, and foundation levels, through connected pathways that admit students from all walks of life and personal background­s.

Steeped in a culture of research and innovation as well as social entreprene­urship, technology driven MSU comprises the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Business Management and Profession­al Studies, the Faculty of Informatio­n Sciences and Engineerin­g, the Internatio­nal Medical School, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Education and Social Sciences, the School of Hospitalit­y and Creative Arts, the School of Graduate Studies, the Graduate School of Management, and the Centre for Foundation Studies.
