Man charged with 5 counts of cheating

KOTA KINABALU: A 35-yearold man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with five counts of cheating over land lot and house purchases.

Chong Seng Fui, who appeared before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

The charge carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or to both, on conviction.

He was alleged to have cheated a man of RM800 purportedl­y as payment for a home assesment report at Maybank in Putatan at 9.55am on December 23, 2016.

Chong was alleged to have cheated another man through the purchase of a non-existent land lot and house in Kampung Mansiang, Penampang, which induced the victim to transfer RM420 and RM600 to his account.

The alleged offence was committed at the Public Bank in Penampang between 1.05 pm and 7.30 pm on March 1.

Chong had also allegedly cheated the same person for the same purpose at the same place between 12.05pm and 3pm on March 2 and 3, 2016.

The man was induced to transfer RM500 and RM150 into the accused’s account.

The court fixed September 27 and 28 this year for trial and released the accused on RM1,500 bail for each charge with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector ASP Sabrina Jinius prosecuted while the accused was represente­d by counsel Henry Gudid.
