Task force studies mobile recording system proposal
PUTRAJAYA: The Child Sexual Crime Task Force will conduct a feasibility study on the setting up of a mobile recording system at police stations to obtain firsthand evidence in the investigations into cases involving sexual crime against children.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who is heading the task force, said the proposed system would enable all police stations to take immediate recording when a new case was reported.
“We hope by setting up the mobile recording system, every police station will be able to pick up early evidence. This is important for child victim because we don’t want them to forget any details.
“The system will see real-time recording which is the most important process for criminal justice because there is no tempering,” she told reporters after the launch of the special court for sexual crime against children, here yesterday.
The special court, which is located at the Palace of Justice Annexe here, was launched by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Azalina said the task force would further discuss with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) of the proposed system and would also study how the a similar system was being applied in other countries.
She said the government was also looking into allowing Legal Aid Department to participate as legal companion for the victims.
“Because in some of the cases, not every victim has financial capacity to appoint their own lawyers. This is where the government must come in to assist on legal companion,” she said.
