Tshung Tsin Yellow, KKHS AD Asia B reach Spritzer Cup quarters

KOTA KINABALU: Tshung Tsin Yellow and KKHS AD Asia B are the first two teams that made it to the quarter-finals of the Spritzer Cup Under-15 Basketball Tournament at the Luyang Hall, here, yesterday.

The two teams notched consecutiv­e wins to earn four points each and another point from their remaining Group A matches means they will be too far ahead to be overtaken by Kian Kok B or Steady.

Tshung Tsin Yellow notched their second win after beating Kian Kok B 51-21, while KKHS AD Asia B defeated Steady 51-38.

Tshung Tsin Red and Ravens are also top of the standings on four points but the battle for quarter-final slots in Group B is still open.

Only the top two teams from each group will make it through to the round of last eight and as it stands Rising Star and Kian Kok I-World, who each have one point, are still in the fight. They both still have three games in hand.

The five-team challenge in Group C is led by KKHS AD Asia A who are on four points, followed by KIS on three points, Skywolf on two, Nightmare also on two and Quickland on one.

In the seven-team girls’ competitio­n, KKHS AD Asia A lead after two wins. They beat their B team 104-16 to pick up their fourth point.

Second in the standings are Tshung Tsin A who are on two points, followed by Kian Kok IWorld on one point, Tshung Tsin B (1) and KKHS AD Asia B (1). Damalee Fitness and Vui Kie met in a match last night but results were not available at press time.

The boys’ competitio­n is conducted in a single round league format where the top two teams from each group will make it to the next round, while the single round league format will determine the standings of the teams in the girls’ competitio­n.

The tournament has been ongoing since June 17 and is expected to conclude with the final on July 1.

Four matches are scheduled today involving Tshung Tsin A and Vui Kie and KKHS AD Asia B against Damalee Fitness for the girls’ category. The boys’ competitio­n will see Group B rivals Ravens take on Kian Kok I-World, while SYR face Rising Star.
