Ravens reach Spritzer Cup quarter-finals

KOTA KINABALU: Ravens made it through to the quarterfin­als of the Spritzer Cup Under15 Basketball Tournament at the Luyang Hall here, yesterday.

They made it to the next round after beating Kian Kok I-World 5142 in a thrilling Group B match.

It was the third win for Ravens and by such virtue they lead the Group B standings on six points with one game in hand.

The remaining qualificat­ion slot from Group B remains open for the taking with Tshung Tsin Red on four points, Rising Star (also four points), SYR (2) and Kian Kok I-World (2).

Rising Star also celebrated victory yesterday when they beat SYR 101-6.

Three other teams that made it to the quarter-finals are KKHS AD Asia A from Group C and KKHS AD Asia B and Tshung Tsin Yellow from Group A.

Only the top two teams from each group will make it to the quarter-finals. One spot will go to either KIS, Skywolf, Nightmare or Quickland from Group C.

And despite having qualified earlier, KKHS AD Asia A were adamant on maintainin­g a good record. They thrashed Skywolf 101-24 to remain undefeated in the group challenge.

KIS are currently on five points while Skywolf have four after both teams played three matches each. Challengin­g for a spot in the quarter-finals are Nightmare and Quickland. Both are on two points but played only as many matches.

Another boys’ match yesterday saw Steady beat Kian Kok I-World B in a nail-biting 40-39 finish. However, the match was merely a formality as the qualificat­ion spots for Group A were already taken by KKHS AD B and Tshung Tsin Yellow.

Meanwhile, KKHS AD Asia A and Tshung Tsin A continue to vie for top honours in the girls’ competitio­n after defeating their respective opponents. It was a third consecutiv­e win for both teams.

KKHS AD Asia A remain at the top of the seven-team standings after beating Damalee Fitness 63-51, while Tshung Tsin A keep the pressure on with their win over KKHS AD Asia B. They dominated the match 103-4.

The top two teams are on six points each and are separated only by score difference.

Third in the standings are Damalee Fitness on five points followed by KKHS AD Asia B (on three points), Vui Kie (2), Kian Kok I-World (1) and Tshung Tsin B (1).

The annual tournament which started on June 17 is ongoing until the final on July 1. The action continues at 12 noon today with five matches.

The first two matches will see Tshung Tsin B against Vui Kie and Kian Kok I-World versus Damalee Fitness.

These will be followed by action from the boys’ competitio­n where KKHS AD Asia B face Tshung Tsin Yellow, followed by a match between Nightmare and Quickland (Group C), while Tshung Tsin Red will take on Ravens (Group B).
