MRCB to hand over phase one of KL Sports City before July 22

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) will hand over four venues under phase one of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City project in stages to the Ministry of Youth and Sports before the July 22 deadline.

MRCB General Manager S.Nalgunalin­gam said the refurbishm­ent and upgrading work on four venues under the project - National Hockey Stadium 1 and 2, National Aquatics Centre, Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Axiata Arena (previously known as Putra Indoor Stadium) - are almost completed with only minor works being carried out.

“The project is 99 completed and a lot of testing has been done for the past few weeks. We are in the midst of finalising the handing over of the National Aquatics Centre and also the National Hockey Stadium 1 and 2, next week and by end of July, we will hand over the Axiata Arena to the Ministry.

“The Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin visited the National Aquatics Centre yesterday and he was very happy with the upgrading work that has been done so far and I’m confident we are on the right track to finish all the upgrading work before the deadline,” he said after accompanyi­ng a number of national sports legends to a tour around the KL Sports City here yesterday.

Among the national sports legends were Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan, Datuk Rabuan Pit (athletics), Datuk Santokh Singh, Khalid Ali, Datuk Soh Chin Aun (football) and Datuk James Selvaraj (badminton).
