Anti-terrorism threat training to prepare for SEA Games
Combating terrorism threats was part of the main focus of the Ex-Rimau 2017 drill which was held at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) in preparation for the 29th SEA Games next month.
Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said 423 officers and staff from various police units including the Bomb Squad took part in the two-day drill which began on Sunday.
Mazlan said the training would also be held at the KL Sentral station on a date and time which had yet to be determined.
“The drill is carried out to ensure the highest level of security and preparedness of our members especially during the SEA Games.
“Various scenarios related to current threats overseas, including terrorism were created as preparation to tackle any problem,” he said in a press conference held after the drill here yesterday.
Mazlan also reminded the public not to spread false information or news as it could cause uneasiness among the people. ”Some information were taken from last year and went viral this year, they should refer to the authorities first before spreading the information.
“The public are also urged to pass whatever information related to threats to the police immediately so that action can be taken,” Mazlan said.
The drill included various police components such as the Special Action Unit, 69 Commando, the Marine Police Force, Air Operations Unit, General Operations Force, Federal Reserve Unit, Criminal Investigations Department and other general task personnel.
The drill was able to test the effectiveness of police planning and action in tackling security threats as well as the roles of the brigade commanders in the Crisis Response Team.
The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had ordered five series of drills including at the KLCC as part of the preparations for the SEA Games which will be held from Aug 19 to 30.
