Mutual trust, cooperation key to association success – Kamarlin

KOTA KINABALU: Mutual trust, cooperation and having a vision are among the ingredients for a successful association with progressive and stable members, said Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Kamarlin Ombi.

He said these attributes must exist among association members throughout Sabah in order to drive associations towards success.

“This success will not only give members the confidence to continually support any programs implemented by the association but also serve as an example to other associations,” said Kamarlin, when officiating at the SMK Gadong Alumni Association (PASEMEGA) Aidilfitri Open House in Beaufort recently.

Kamarlin, who is also Lumadan assemblyman, said PASEMEGA had gone far and overcome many obstacles and the leaders are cooperative, committed, tolerant, humble, and fight for the association so that not only its members but also the community will benefit from educational development in the area.

He added for an association or organization to succeed, its leaders must not only think of themselves but for the good of its members.

“We all understand, holding a position in the association is not for any incentives or even compensation as it is done on a voluntary basis. But members cannot think of their own interests. It is a responsibility and a struggle so that the goals of the association can be achieved. They have to strive with existing leaders,” he reminded.

PASAMEGA chairman Latif Uji and the committee's highest ranking members were also present at the Aidilfitri celebration.
