KOTA KINABALU: Sabah are still within a biting chance of making it to the quarterfinals despite losing 2-1 to Selangor in the Youth Cup League match at Stadium Salak Tinggi yesterday.

Victory in Sepang would have seen them through but as it stands, Sabah must slug it out with Felda United FC in their remaining Group B fixture.

Their second spot opponent need only one point from the match, which is scheduled to be held at the Penampang Stadium on July 30.

Sabah, on the other hand, must win and hope that results from another fixture (Perak versus Perlis) swing in their favour.

Defeat to Selangor yesterday saw Sabah slump one position to fourth spot from third. They are currently on 23 points while Perak are fifth (20 points) with one game in hand.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur became the first team from Group B to make it through to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals are accorded to the top four teams from each group and despite losing 1-0 to Melaka yesterday, the Group B leaders have secured their berth.

They are currently on top at 27 points, which is enough to guarantee a spot in the round of last eight.

The remaining three slots will be a toss between second spot Felda United FC, who are on 26 points, Selangor in third on 25, Sabah in fourth on 23, Perak in fifth spot on 20 points and Negeri Sembilan in sixth on 19.

Like Perak, Negeri Sembilan also have a game in hand.
