Run 4 River Moyog on Sept 9

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Community-Led Environmental Awareness for Our River (CLEAR), in collaboration with the Penampang District Office and MS Sports & Event Management, will organise the Run 4 River Moyog on September 9.

Taking place at the jetty of Kampun Mahandoi in Penampang, the event will be held in conjunction with the Penampang District Bamboo Rafting Festival and World’s Rivers Day which will be happening on September 23 and 24.

Penampang district officer Luvita Koisun sees the event as a way to attract the younger generation to not only practise a healthy lifestyle but also to support the efforts of the youths in Penampang to restore the Moyog River’s importance as the source of water for the whole of Kota Kinabalu.

Coordinator of CLEAR, Winnie Jimis, said they took the initiative to organise a river-themed event to reestablish inter-dependence between humans and rivers.

While stressing on the importance of water, she said the Moyog River was not how it used to be and thus, she hoped the river will gradually recover with on-going and effective programmes by the community and government.

Having said that, Winnie revealed that participants of the running event would have the chance to throw mudballs into the ditches leading to the Moyog River.

Meanwhile, the Run 4 River event will cover an 11km track passing through villages in Penampang.

Two categories will be contested, namely the Open and Veteran (40 years old and above) for men and women.

The top three winners for each category will receive cash prizes, medals and certificates while those who complete the race will receive finisher medal and certificate.

Registered participants will also receive the event Tshirt as well as a free ticket to go bamboo rafting during the Penampang District Bamboo Rafting festival.

The entry fee is RM75 per runner.
