SPNB to start building Felda houses using AGIBS by end-2017
KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) is expected to begin developing 20,000 units under the Felda New Generation Housing Project using the Ajiya Green Integrated Building Solutions (AGIBS) by year-end.
SPNB Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ahmad Azizi Ali said the project which has a total gross development value of RM2.8 billion would be undertaken in three phases and would kick off in Terengganu.
“The implementation of the industrialised building system (IBS) in our project will improve the deliverables of the product to the consumers, improve sustainable environment as well as quality of product development,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SPNB and Ajiya Bhd here yesterday.
AGIBS, developed by Ajiya, is a patented IBS that provides the construction industry with sustainable and fully-integrated building solutions to overcome manpower constraints, shorten construction time and reduce operating system.
Under the MoU, Ajiya will supply the AGIBS system for the housing projects under SPNB, which includes SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd (which undertakes the Felda New Generation Housing Programme); SPNB Aspirasi Sdn Bhd (Rumah Aspirasi Rakyat) and SPNB Idaman Sdn Bhd (Rumah Idaman Rakyat).
Meanwhile, Ajiya Managing Director, Datuk Chan Wah Kiang said the AGIBS would make it possible to build houses three times faster than the conventional construction method.
“Traditionally, it will take 24 months of construction period to complete but with the adoption of AGIBS, it could be done in eight months,” he said.
He said the AGIBS system comprises eight series of housing components -- lightweight steel wall framing with wet wall system, metal door and window frames, composite floor decking, metal ceilings, sunshades, lightweight truss system, metal roofing, and safety glass with aluminium sash.
Chan said going forward the company aimed to expand the AGIBS system to other affordable housing projects, regardless of public or private sector-driven developments.
