ESSCom to take stern action against smuggling, fish bombing

SEMPORNA: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) will take drastic and stern action against smuggling and fish bombing activities.

Its commander, DCP Dato’ Hazani Ghazali, said smuggling contributed to security threats and negative activities.

“I would like to remind those individuals who are involved in smuggling activities to immediately stop their activities to avoid facing drastic action being taken against them,” he warned.

Hazani said similar action would also be taken against those involved in fish bombing activities.

He said the district police would also take action and ESSCom would monitor these activities from time to time.

“We have mobilized assets to monitor these activities and aggressive action will be taken to stop these activities altogether,” said Hazani at a press conference after a dialogue session with the community in Lihak Lihak zone on Sunday which was officiated by Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Ramlee Marhaban.

Earlier in his speech, Hazani told the community to practise the concept of ‘Jaga Tepi Kain Orang’ as one of the crime prevention efforts.

“The people should open their eyes and ears to take note of their neighbours or friends and immediately convey the information to the security forces if they are involved in criminal activities. It is important for the people to be a busy body in order to prevent the spread of criminal activities,” he said.

Hazani also urged the community to continue to work and cooperate with ESSCom to maintain the security and sovereignty of the country.
