ROS to issue letter to DAP soon

-

KUCHING: An official notice from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for the DAP to hold fresh party elections will be issued soon.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Masir Kujat said the letter from RoS will be formally sent to DAP this week or next week.

"They won't be able to convene the meeting (for the fresh party election) if there is no letter from RoS. To me personally, if they don't receive any letter from ROS, then how to proceed with the meeting.

"You cannot just base it on verbal directive. There must be something official," he told reporters here yesterday.

Masir, however, declined to elaborate further as he stressed that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is Home Minister, already spoke about the matter.

"There must be some form of letter that their election last time was null and void (which necessitated the re-election)," he said.

On July 7, RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah issued a press statement saying that it had no intention of deregistering DAP, but the party should hold fresh elections for its central executive committee (CEC).

DAP then issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the RoS to send its notice after the party said it did not receive the official letter from the RoS.

The party's legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo was quoted as saying DAP would write to the RoS to convey the party's stand on the RoS press statement.

The CEC will then meet on Wednesday and decide on the next course of action, he added.

Zahid, on the other hand, had said DAP would not be able to nominate candidates to contest the next general election if they did not follow the instruction from the RoS.
