Armed gang robbery, mischief suspect held

TAWAU: Police arrested a 25year-old man for allegedly committing armed gang robbery and mischief at three different places here recently, while his two accomplice­s remain at large.

District police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said the suspect nicknamed Otai, an ex-convict with two offences under the Drug Abuse Act, was detained at a house at Blok F Kg Muhibbah Raya, Fasa 1 Jalan Kuhara here at about 11.30 pm on July 15.

Fadil said the suspect admitted to commiting the crimes together with his friends. They have been identified as Mai, 20, a Suluk whose last known address is Tawau Lama and Bos Ayub @ Boy, 20, a Tidong living at Tanah Merah Tawau Lama. Both of them are non-documented and police are still looking for them.

In the first robbery, a 19-yearold man lodged a police report after he was robbed of his Asus Zenfone C handphone worth about RM300 by two men with a knife at about 10 am on April 24.

In the second case, a 16-yearold student lodged a police report after he was approached by three unknown men with a knife at an unnumbered house behind SMK Kinabutan here at about 12.30 pm on May 23. The suspects had ordered the student to surrender his Oppo A37F handphone worth about RM700.

The police have classified the two cases under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

In the third case, a 54-year-old man lodged a police report after a stone was thrown at his car while he was driving along Tinagat Plaza, Batu 2 Jalan Apas here at about 2 pm on May 24.

The windshield of his car sustained a crack. He demanded compensati­on for the damage but the suspect, who was believed to be drunk, ran away.
