36 principals attend environmental course in Sandakan
SANDAKAN: Thirty-six principals from east coast schools attended the six-day EERace 18 East Coast Edition 2017 course which started yesterday at the Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Center.
They are from Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Telupid/ Tongod, Nabawan, Beluran, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau and Pitas.
EERace or Environmental Education Race is an environmental education course designed by the Rainforest Discovery Center (RDC), Sabah Forestry Department in 2005, specially for teachers, professors and principals.
To date, RDC in collaboration with members of the Sabah Environmental Education Network (SEEN) and several private agencies have organized 20 EERace courses.
EERace is targeted at school principals in the east coast of Sabah since 2011. In line with the implementation of the Heart of Borneo (HoB) Project, EERace has also been improved to emphasize HoB areas.
EERace is a racing concept that imitates the Amazing Race program to get information about the environment through experimential learning.
Among the environmental themes covered in EERace are forest, wildlife, community, water, power generation, forest resource processing and agricultural resources such as oil palm.
About 70 percent of the course is also concentrated in the field and the assignment is also provided where the information available from the course results will also be shared at the respective schools hereafter in teaching and learning, especially in relation to the environment.
