TAWAU: Tawau District Archery Association (TDAA) will receive a boost in its preparation for Sabah Games 2107 (SAGA) in Sandakan come December

Its patron, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, pledged to get sponsorship for the TDAA’s SAGA team for a better preparation.

Nizam, who is also the political secretary to the Chief Minister, said he understood that some of the equipment needed such as target butts were expensive, thus needing funding to help the archers undergo intensive training without any hitch.

He also promised to give incentives to archers who make Tawau proud in the coming MSSN Terengganu archery competition.

Meanwhile, TDAA president Jerome Lim said the district archers were training well and had participated in many competitions in the country.

“We have many promising archers, some wholly sponsored by parents. We are very confident of getting more gold for the district in this year’s SAGA, but will need sponsors for the preparation,” he said when visited by Nizam on Sunday during the Tawau District Youth Circuit 2017 Series 2/2017.

Nizam also met Malaysia’s number two ranking compound archer and world ranking 66th, Lee Kin Lip, who won silver in the team and individual events during the recent Asia Cup and World Ranking Tournament stage in Taiwan.

Lee made the scene in compound archery in 2013 winning the team bronze in SEA Games Myanmar 2013. In 2014 he won the team bronze in the Asia Cup and World Ranking Stage One and Three in Thailand and Taiwan respectively. In 2015, in the Stage One Asia Cup and World Ranking in Thailand, the team won bronze and team gold in SEA Games Singapore 2015.

In 2016, Lee burst into the compound archery limelight during the Malaysia archery circuit game and Malaysia ranking game grabbing gold in the individual event and setting a new national record.

Nizam called on TDDA to make Tawau proud, especially Lee who is the only athlete from Tawau representing Malaysia in the SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017.
