Jheains urged to expedite production of religious textbooks

KOTA KINABALU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif urged for the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) to expedite the production of textbooks for Islamic religious schools in Sabah.

“With regard to the textbooks, I hope they will be available at the beginning of the year,” said Arifin, who is minister in charge of state religious affairs and also the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) chairman.

“It is now at the tendering stage. I hope there are no more obstacles. I hope the management side will speed this (process) up,” he urged, adding that the textbooks were also ready for printing.

The assistant minister said this in his speech at the Jheains state-level Teacher’s Day celebratio­n at Wisma Muis here yesterday.

Arifin also encouraged teachers to send feedback related to the educationa­l needs to the school supervisor­s.

He also ensured that the infrastruc­ture and shortage of religious school teachers are issues of importance that needs focus.

In terms of religious teachers, Arifin said the state would see increasing their skills.

He added that a proposal to increase the number of teachers was underway.

He said for the time being, Fardhu Ain and religious class teachers would be placed at schools with shortage of teachers.

Arifin also presented Jheains awards to the recipients in recognitio­n of the excellent performanc­e of teachers and schools, and witnessed the handing over of RM2,004,000 Pusat Zakat Sabah replica cheque to Jheains Education Division chief assistant director Ag Omar Pg Gana at the ceremony.

This year, the Jasamu DiKenang Special Award and RM4,000 prize were presented to Saif @ Shaiffuddi­n Daud from Ranau, whilst the Jasamu DiKenang Award and RM1,000 prize was handed to Abu Bakar Madiasin.

Jumiti Rasim and Saneh Abd Rahman were recognized with the excellent teacher service awards.

Sekolah Agama Negeri (SAN) Integrasi Putatan received the best administra­tion state religious school award, Darul Yatama Yacob Khan received the Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) Administra­tion Special Award, SAR Kg Klias Baru, Beaufort received the SAR best religious school administra­tion award, and Tadika Jheains Sembulan received the best kindergart­en administra­tion award.

Meanwhile, the best average secondary school grade awards were given to Sekolah Menengah Agama Negeri (SMAN) Toh Puan Hjh Rahmah, Kinarut (SMU), SMAN Pantai Manis, Papar (SPM), and SMAN Tahfiz Pekan, Kunak (STAM).

The 100% Sijil Rendah Ugama (SRU) Results Achievemen­t Award 2016 was also presented to 15 SAN and 10 SAR.
