Cop, lorry driver charged with extortion

IPOH: A policeman and a lorry driver were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with extorting a member of the public three years ago.

Lance corporal Muhammad Faisal Ahmad Ghapur, 32, and Muhammad Azizul Hakim Hasnan, 27, howeve, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to them before Judge S.Indra Nehru.

According to the charge sheet, the duo had instilled fear in Faizal Yusof by producing a pair of handcuffs and threatenin­g to take him to the police station, with the intent to extort from the victim.

The offence was committed at Taman Farmaseuti­kal Industrial Estate, Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Tengah district, at 7 pm on March 20, 2014.

They were charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years or fine or whipping or with any two of such punishment­s upon conviction.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Nurul Wahida Jalaluddin prosecuted, while Muhammad Faisal was represente­d by counsel Amir Khusairi and Muhammad Azizul Hakim by counsel Khairul Anuar Musa.

Indra Nehru allowed both the accused bail of RM13,000 with one surety each and set Aug 9 for re-mention of the case.

Meanwhile in the same court, an assistant engineer attached with Larut Matang and Selama (LMS) Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) office and a contractor claimed trial to committing forgery two years ago.

Mohamad Ibrohim Mohamed Shahudin, 36, and Azlan Ibrahim, 44, were charged with forging a job order document under the name of Fajar Interprise dated July 10, 2015 for the amount of RM20,000 by signing the document at the DID LMS office between May to August 2015.

Both accused were charged under Section 468 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The prosecutio­n was conducted by Nurul Wahida, while the accused were unrepresen­ted.

The court set bail at RM12,000 with one surety for each of the accused and fixed Aug 2 for remention.
