Technician's molest case deferred

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate's Court here yesterday fixed August 23 this year to re-mention the case of a technician charged with molesting a woman.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus set the date for Osman Hussin following an applicatio­n by his counsel Mohd Syahirulra­zi Mohd Jani, to have a new date for further case management.

The 31-year-old accused was alleged to have molested a 33year-old woman at a staircase of an apartment at Jalan Sulaman at 10.40pm on June 6.

The charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or whipping or any two of such punishment­s, upon conviction.

He is currently released on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

This case was first brought to court on June 20.

In an unrelated case, two persons were each fined by the same court after they admitted to separate charges of possessing syabu.

Ani Muhammad, 27, was fined RM5,500, in default, 12 months' jail for having 2.86 grams of syabu on April 10, while Husairi Jul, 26, was fined RM2,500 fine, in default, eight months' jail for possessing 0.05 gram of syabu in Sembulan on Feb 13.

They were convicted under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or a maximum jail of five years or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Azibar Umdan was sentenced to eight months in jail for consuming syabu.

He admitted to a charge under Section 15(1) (a) of the of the same Act, which is punishable by a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum two years in jail, upon conviction.
